Bridge - Conventions Bridge – Gerber

Bridge - Conventions Bridge – Gerber.

Gerber is a bridge convention developed by the American expert John Gerber.

In the author's original study, the 4 ♣ bid in most bidding sequences was an artificial question about the number of aces in the partner's hand, most couples nowadays use this taunt only after a natural taunt without a trump (in other sequences, the 4 ♣ usually has a different meaning, e.g. cue bid lub Splinter). The Gerber responses are usually very simple – 4 shows zero aces, 4 that one as, 4♠ to 2 Ashy. Some of the couples use “abbreviated” Gerber (just like Blackwood):

– 4 to 0 or 3 Ashy

– 4 to 1 or 4 Ashy

– 4♠ to 2 aces and no kings

– 4BA to 2 aces and one king, itd.
